Faith Statement
- We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be the verbal and plenarily inspired Word of God (Matthew 5:18; 2 Timothy 3:16-17). We believe the Bible is inerrant in the original writings, infallible, God-breathed, and the complete and final authority for faith and practice (2 Peter 1:20-21).
- We believe that there is one God (Duet. 6:4; Colossians 1:16), eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 13:14), yet one in being, essence, power, and glory, having the same attributes and perfections (John 10:30).
- We believe that Salvation is a gift of God’s grace through faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross (Ephesians 2:8-9). We believe that Christ shed His blood to accomplish justification through faith, propitiation to God, redemption from sin, and reconciliation of man (Romans 5:8-9; 1 Peter 2:24).
- We believe that man came into being by direct creation of God and that man is made in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:26-27).
- We believe that the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit (Romans 12:1; 1 Corinthians 6:19) and that Christian liberty should never serve as an occasion to the flesh (Galatians 5:13).
- We believe that the human race inherited a sinful nature (Romans 5:12); that sin is universal in man (Romans 3:23); and that God hates sin but loves mankind (John 3:16). Therefore, all men are guilty and in a lost condition apart from redemption and a personal relationship through Jesus Christ. (Romans 10:9-10; 2 Corinthians 5:21).
- We believe that the Church, which is the body and bride of Christ, is a spiritual organism made up of all born-again persons of this present age (1 Corinthians 12:12-14; 2 Corinthians 11:2; Ephesians 1:22-23; 5:25-27). We also believe that the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:36-40) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20) is the primary mission of the Church.
History of Kids Across America
In 1978, Joe White of Kanakuk Kamps, Inc., the largest family of Christian sports camps in America, started giving the last week of Kamp in the summer to serve the camping needs of inner-city youth. The I'm Third Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was birthed out of this need, and eventually the demand for a camp dedicated to serving urban youth and inner-city adult leaders became so great that the first Kids Across America Kamp was built. It was completed and opened in 1991, and in 1995 KAA 2 was opened adjacent to KAA 1. The number of young people and inner-city leaders served has grown every year. This demand led to the opening of a leadership training camp, called Higher Ground, in 1998, and a fourth camp, KAA 3, in the summer of 2001. In September 2000, the I'm Third Foundation was renamed Kids Across America Foundation (KAA). As the numbers of young people and leaders served through the camps has grown, KAA has also grown in the scope of support services provided throughout the year.
